Tools You Need to Succeed in an Online Business

Something I’ve always wanted to do is to create a new information product especially for people who want very much to succeed with an online business but just don’t know where to start. While there is much information to be had on the subject, I realize its way too easy to become overwhelmed without having some sort of guide.

Due to working on this new project, I started remembering the trials and tribulations I experienced when I started my first business online. I remember thinking, “how hard can it be if so many people are doing it?” I quickly learned just how hard after I did some research on exactly what was involved. Holy @x*! I was in for a shock of reality. Talk about feeling humble.

When I began building my first online business I remember how very frustrating and overwhelming it was to step out of the Stone Age and learn brand new survival skills. And I remember wishing I could find just ONE product or piece of software that would automate my business. I wished that I could just push a few buttons and PRESTO, somehow turn the money siphon on. (Deep Sigh) Poof..and then I woke up.

I was so tired of spending hours on end doing the research. And each time I did research on one thing, there were always links on those articles or sites that seemed to lead me on another chase for knowledge. It was like I had ADD on steroids. The learning curve was long, tedious and unproductive. This is not how I imagined things would be.

Do you ever catch yourself saying, “I wish I had known that then”? Me too. This is why I’ve compiled a short guide to help newbie entrepreneurs get started providing some direction to head when constructing their business online. This guide lists the steps required to succeed in business on the internet.

STEPS TO BUILDING YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS

THE WEBSITE

Website - After your website is designed, make sure you link as many internal pages to each other as possible and develop many backlinks from other sites to yours

Website Name - Before naming your site, define who your customer is and what they need from you. Then tailor your business name to something similar to a phrase your customers would use to search for your product or service.

Web Host - will take your website live for the world to see. Decide what type of features you will need and screen for reputation

Web Email & Auto Responders - should be in place right after your site launch

Website Content - This is how you convey what your site is about to your customers. Search Engines love fresh content and there are many ways to obtain relevant content.

Website Logo or Banner - Logos and web banners help to brand your product or service. You can do it yourself with many creative software options or you can have these created by your web host or a graphic artist

MAKING MONEY

Shopping Cart - If you plan to offer your own products, services or memberships you will need to either handle transactions through a service such as PayPal or offer a shopping cart.

Products or Services - If you offer your own product or service, you will need to provide a description of each product, an image of each product, and a link to your transaction page. You will also need to track payments, refunds, shipping etc. If you do not have a product of your own, you may find working as an affiliate to be easier. Thousands of companies pay affiliate commissions to any company who refers customers to their site, which results in a sale. All transactions are handled on the other company’s site.

Affiliate Account - I still recommend working as an affiliate for companies offering similar products to yours even if you offer your own products or services. Affiliate commissions is another source of income. All you have to do is put it in place, send traffic to the links, and make money. Easy.

Site Membership - Many sites have successful memberships because customers see the value in being able to communicate with other members and brainstorm on ideas or problems in real-time. Forums and email is great but there is nothing like being able to have a conversation with another member. Consider what type of membership you might be able to offer and at what price. It could be a new source of income for you.

GETTING PAGE RANKING

If you are wondering why some companies show up first in your Google search while others may be found on page 499, then you don’t understand how search engine optimization and page ranking works. You must gain understanding of how all of this works in order for you to properly market your website. Companies that gain 1st page position when you do a search are those who get the traffic. You want to be like them. You must find out how to market your website to obtain a decent page ranking.

OFFERING LITTLE EXTRAS & BONUSES

Chat Features, Custom Toolbars, Free Private Label Rights to Information, Free Private Label Software, E-books, Reports etc. are all small enticements you can offer to customers for signing up for your newsletter or membership which in turn builds an opt-in list for email campaigns. The purpose of email campaigns is getting more sales.

GETTING FREE AND PAID TRAFFIC

Offering all of the above will get you absolutely nowhere if you have no traffic! After your website is launched and indexed, your main concern should now be focused on generating traffic and lots of it.

Article Submitter Software - One of THE best ways to obtain free website traffic is by way of publishing articles like this one on hundreds of article sites. This one component can make or break your ranking in the search engines.

Blogs, Forums, and Social Networking - participate in conversations about issues that others are having that are also relevant to the products or services your site offers. Be sure to plug your site while you are at it and you will see an increase in free traffic to your site.

Free Traffic from Advertising Sites - Google “free website traffic” and see what comes up. You’d be amazed.

Paid Traffic - You can not live on free traffic alone. You should be prepared to spend a couple hundred dollars on advertising your site. Google has a good program where you can set your own budgetary limits. By doing this, you will not exceed your budget.
