When it comes to affiliate marketing the variety of products you can choose from to promote and sell is virtually limitless. The key is deciding just what it is you want to promote.
When you first start out with your affiliate marketing you would be well advised to start with a subject you at least have some knowledge of that find a niche you’re comfortable with so that you can supply your readers/potential customers with the information you know they might be after. You don’t need to be an expert in your chosen field, you just need to know something about it.
Once you’ve come up with an idea – do a little research to find out whether your chosen subject is going to be suitable for affiliate marketing (as opposed to setting up say a site targeted towards receiving an adsense income) A quick way to find whether there is potential in your chosen field is to do a google search. If you search your chosen subject and see in the results page a list of sponsored ads then you can be fairly sure that there is both the products available for you to market along with enough interest for others to promote in this area – this is by no means a guaranteed way to get sales or determine if it’s going to be a profitable niche, but it can be a good starting point.
Once you’ve narrowed your chosen niche down you will then want to find your related affiliate products that you want to promote and sell. Search through places like Clickbank, Amazon, Pepperjam Network etc to find your products.
The next step is deciding how you want to go about selling your chosen product(s) for me personally setting up my own web site or blog and using articles, reviews etc to promote the product is the best – though others do promote items in different ways (eg linking to their affiliate link via forums or traffic exchanges etc). Long term though having your own web site or blog is better as you’re providing your potential readers/customers with related information and advice about your chosen subject on a regular basis. Getting your own domain and hosting is quick and easy and nowadays not all that expensive – I use Hostgator for my hosting and my domain I got through Netfirms and have never had a problem with either of them.
Once you’ve decided on your chosen niche, found your selected product(s) you need to work on promoting it – getting others to visit your affiliate link. There are many ways you can do this as I’ve discussed and will continue to discuss in other articles.
